A new phase 3 study shows that Semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy) doesn’t just lead to weight loss, it also improves liver health in patients with MASH (metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis). The findings included:
- 63 % of patients had resolution of inflammation without worsened fibrosis (vs 34 % in the placebo group)
- 37 % had decreased fibrosis (vs 22 % in placebo)
- On average, patients lost more than 10 % of their weight
This strengthens the view of GLP-1 agonists as much more than “just weight loss”, they impact central risk factors for long-term health. At our clinic we see daily how these innovations change lives, not only by the scale, but also via blood pressure, liver fat and metabolic markers. More and more evidence suggests that GLP-1 may be the closest thing we have today to a true longevity drug.
